Custom Made
Build Process
It generally takes between 1500 and 3000 hours to build an Kingsley Defender, depending on the precise specification chosen.
We usually have over 150 Land Rover models on site at any time as prospective donor vehicles, waiting to be re-engineered and recycled into your vision of the definitive Defender. As with all hand-built cars, every build is slightly different, but below is an example of a typical customer journey to ending up with their definitive Defender:
Step 1
Configure your Defender
Whether you want a versatile dual purpose long wheelbase hardtop station wagon, or a soft top adventure leisure vehicle which is ready for dune bashing or urban cruising, you can use our configurator or arrange a consultation with one of our experienced team, to begin the journey of commissioning your Defender. We have built many cars for clients all over the world and are happy to share our knowledge on what works well for various customer applications.
Step 2
Donor car selected
Once we have determined the ideal configuration for your Kingsley Defender, we select one of our donor vehicles most suited to your conversion requirements. We have just about every Defender model ready for regeneration as your unique, bespoke Defender, but can also work on any suitable donor vehicle supplied by you, subject to inspection by our engineers.
Step 3
Powertrain options
Whether you want an efficient modern diesel powerplant or a contemporary powerful V8 petrol engine offering levels of performance hitherto unavailable to drivers of a Defender - we can present a range of options to meet your precise requirements. Transmission options range from 4 speed manual to an 8 speed automatic, depending on engine choice, all with two and four wheel drive configurations.
Step 4
Build updates
Now the main components of your build have been selected, your model specification is signed off ready for build. Once your build has started, we provide you with access to a secure customer portal where you can get access to the build process of your Kingsley Defender as it progresses. At this stage there may be some flexibility to further refine details of your final build specification before key stages are completed.
Step 5
Completion and commissioning
As you might expect with a car which is hand-built by craftsmen, the build completion is simply another milestone in the build journey. The completed car is road tested and used in a variety of conditions to ensure that the performance and dynamics of a Kingsley Defender are in line with the expectations of the best re-engineered Defenders available.
Step 6
Collect your Kingsley Defender
After a couple of thousand hours of dedicated craftsmanship, depending on your car's specification, your Kingsley Defender is ready to take you on new adventures. Although built from the onset to be rugged and durable, your vehicle is covered by an extensive warranty and as a Kingsley customer you get access to a number of exclusive Kingsley events where you can share your passion for the ultimate dual-purpose 4x4, with other like-minded enthusiasts.
